So, what are hand hewn reclaimed beams? They are fallen logs that have been transformed from round log to square timber using only hand-held tools. Our mantels are reclaimed beams from salvaged from 1800's era Bank Barns, English Barns, Tobacco Barns and Traverse Barns. Inside these barns were these large wooden beams called “girts”. They were connected with mortise-and-tenon joints inside the barn to build a frame that was held together with wooden pegs.
We are lucky to be able to bring these one of a kind pieces of history back to life. Each piece is unique and has it's own history.
